Special camps were held as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi districts on Saturday to help voters submit claims and objections to the draft electoral roll published on December 19.
To facilitate the submission of applications during this period, the Election Commission had announced that special camps would be held on December 27, 28 and January 3 and 4 of next year. A total of 6.82 lakh voters have been deleted from the four southern districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi.
The SIR special camps are organised to assist the people, whose names are not included in the electoral draft roll, as well as newly eligible citizens, who can apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6 and the declaration form.
Inspecting a special camp held in Ozhuginesary, Kanniyakumari Collector R. Alagumeena urged young voters, in the six Assembly constituencies in the district, who had completed 18 years and whose names were not included in the published electoral roll, to make good use of the opportunity.
Similar camps were also conducted at Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts.
