The spirit of the 77th Republic Day resonated across the Sivaganga District Collectorate on Monday as the administration celebrated it with a grand display of ceremonial tradition and social commitment.

District Collector K. Porkodi unfurled the national flag, beginning the event officially.

In the award ceremony, Collector presented appreciation certificates and medals to 617 individuals. The honours list reflected a cross-section of the district’s dedicated workforce:

While 79 police personnel were decorated with the prestigious Chief Minister’s Medals for their distinguished service in maintaining law and order, 72 senior officials from various departments were lauded for their leadership in implementing government schemes.

Apart from this, 466 staff members and social activists were recognised for their tireless on-the-ground efforts in rural development and public welfare.

Beyond the accolades, the celebration served as a vital touchpoint for the district’s social security net. Ms. Porkodi distributed welfare assistance totalling ₹2.78 lakh to beneficiaries.

Motorised vehicles and specialised equipment worth ₹50,000 were provided to two differently-abled beneficiaries; High-value grants exceeding ₹2 lakh were sanctioned for students to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder higher education in the district.

The event also served as the closing chapter for the District Level Sports Meet held earlier this month on January 21. Winners from a pool of 24 schools and 22 competitive teams were invited to the podium, where they received trophies and certificates, highlighting the district’s focus on youth development and physical education.
