Six-day refresher course for police personnel begins

A six-day refresher course for police personnel on receiving complaints from the public, conducting inquiry and registering first information report, filing of charge sheet and expediting the trial in the court began here on Monday.

Inaugurating the refresher course, Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, N. Manivannan explained in detail the strategies to be followed while inquiring about petitions from the public, the information to be collected from them while receiving petitions, verifying the veracity of the charges made in the petitions, registration of FIR, collection of evidence from scene of crime, patrolling, curbing crimes, filing of charge sheet, following the trial of every case, investigating of POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) cases and crime against women, and filing charge sheet, producing evidences and witnesses in the court, cyber crime cases, handling of juvenile offenders etc.

“While the police personnel should have strong understanding in policing, they should equip themselves with latest investigating techniques to crack the cases to fix the real culprits and win the cases in their favour in the court of law. Hence, the refresher courses are being conducted,” Mr. Manivannan said.

He also said the policemen should spend quality time with their families, especially with their children and give due importance to their health.

Similar refresher course has started for the benefit of Tirunelveli district police also.
