The southern districts Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi have come alive with vibrant lights decorations at places of worship, markets, shops, and public facilities as they welcome New Year 2026.
Welcoming the new year with gaiety and fervour, midnight masses have been organised at catholic churches across the southern districts.
Several temples in the region also remained open, offering devotees a chance to welcome the new year with divine experiences.
A large number of people have gathered at Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur for new year darshan, creating a vibrant and devotional atmosphere.
For the New year celebrations, extensive security arrangements were made across the district. Over 3,500 police personnel have been deployed across southern districts for security arrangements.
While DJ nights and musical parties have been restricted at tourist places like Kanniykaumari, hotels and resorts who had obtained permission from the district police have been allowed to conduct DJ and other musical parties at the venue.
