Special Deepavali sale of Cooptex with 30% discount has begun at its showroom at West Teppam Bazar Street in Virudhunagar.
Collector, Sharanya Ari, inaugurated the special sale of a variety of goods, including silk and cotton arees, cotton dhoties and bedsheets.
The Collector said that new value-added varieties of silk and cotton goods that would attract the youngsters with new design and colours are also up for sale at the showroom.
In order to promote sale of handloom goods, the State Government has provided 30% discount on silk and cotton handloom varieties. Similarly, 20% discount has been given for powerloom varieties.
Virudhunagar district has got three Cooptex showrooms, including those at Sivakasi and Srivilliputtur. The target for Deepavali special sales in the district has been fixed at ₹1.54 crore.
The sale in these showrooms in the current year has been ₹1.26 crore.
The Collector added that Cooptex that was founded in 1935 as a handloom weavers cooperative society has emerged as a mega handloom cooperative association. It has been promoting the handloom weavers’ goods, with both traditional and modern designs, with its 146 showrooms in the last 90 years, she added.
People can buy handlooms goods online from Cooptex through its portal www.cooptex.gov.in
Members of the public, students and Government employees should buy goods from Cooptex to help improve the livelihood of the weavers, the Collector said.
Regional Manager of Cooptex, Chandrasekaran, Deputy Manager, Deepa, and showroom Manager, Geetha, were present.
