Speed radar guns deployed on Madurai-Rameswaram NH in Manamadurai to curb over-speeding

Sivaganga police have introduced speed radar guns along the Madurai-Rameswaram National Highway in Manamadurai to monitor and penalise speeding vehicles.

Vehicles on NH are legally permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. However, over-speeding on the Madurai-Rameswaram four-lane highway has frequently triggered severe accidents, occasionally resulting in fatalities. Police have implemented various measures to address this issue.

As part of these safety initiatives, automated speed monitoring using radar guns was launched on Wednesday. Traffic Police Inspector Venkateswaran inaugurated the system.

The device accurately tracks vehicles exceeding the 80 km/h speed limit and automatically issues a fine of ₹1,000, said the police Additionally, a fine of ₹1,000 will be levied on two-wheeler riders caught not wearing helmets.

Police stated that these measures will effectively curb traffic violations and prevent accidents on the highway.
