In a case of rash and negligent driving by a young driver on a four-wheeler along the Natham-Madurai National Highways (four-way lane), two persons including a differently-abed person, who were travelling on a motorcycle died on the spot on Friday.
Villagers who visited the accident spot were in tears as one of the deceased person’s artificial legs were strewn on the road near the body.
Police said that Marudhupandi (32) a car driver and his friend Hakeem (30) (A differently-abled), were on the two-wheeler. They were proceeding towards Koilpatti on the Natham-Madurai NH. While they attempted to cross the road from Punnapatti village, a speeding car from Tiruchi to Madurai hit the two-wheeler. In the impact, the two-wheeler rider and pillion were thrown off for at least 50 feet. The artificial legs of Hakeem was also separated from the body, villagers and a few motorists on the other lane said.
The Natham police sent the two bodies for post-mortem. The car driver was identified as Jason (31) of Madurai. He was detained by the police for interrogation.
