Mathiazhagan (30), an inmate at the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp in Thulukankurichi in Vembakottai Union in Virudhunagar district died in a road accident on Tiruvengadam to Sivakasi stretch on Thursday night. Police said on Friday that the motorist had purchased grocery and food for his wife from Vembakottai and was returning home. While he was approaching the camp, a goods vehicle is said to have hit against the two-wheeler in which Mathiazhagan was thrown off. In the impact, he had suffered head injury and died on the spot. Vembakottai police registered a case and arrested driver Balamurugan (48) of Velliahpuram, Sivakasi. Further investigation was on.
Worker admitted in GH for burns, dies
A 61-year-old man identified as Michael Raj of SPM Street in Thayilpatti in Virudhunagar district succumbed to injuries in the government hospital on Friday. Police said that the victim, who was admitted on September 21, suffered over 50 % of burns. It is said that he had illegally stored fire crackers in his dwelling and also kept stock of chemicals for making fireworks. Due to intense raids, Michael Raj, it is said, had put up a thatched shed behind his house and stored them, which caught up in flames.
