The Srisailam Dam Project earned a place in the World Book of Records for its remarkable engineering features and extraordinary resilience. It is the first project in Indian to achieve this distinction, said M. Venugopal Reddy, Superintending Engineer of Srisailam Project.

The Srisailam Project, whose construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1980, serves both the irrigation and hydel power generation purpose. Mr. Venugopal Reddy attributed the award to the project’s engineering features, which includes the massive crest gates measuring 60×55 feet, a unique engineering unmatched by any other project in South Asia.

The project is constructed at an elevation of approximately 980 feet above sea level and has an exceptional flood resistance. “During the devastating Krishna river floods in 2009, the project withstood a record-breaking flood inflow of 2.54 million cusecs, demonstrating its immense strength and structural integrity,” officials said.

The World Book of Records certificate was presented to Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhara Reddy by World Book of Records Joint Secretary (Southern Region) Eliezer. Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy praised the dedication and hardwork of the engineers who contributed to the construction of the dam. He also congratulated the Irrigation department officials for their efforts in securing the prestigious recognition for the dam in the World Book of Records.
