An N-Gen (Next Generation) Post Office, aimed at transforming conventional postal facilities into youth-centric, technology-enabled service hubs, was inaugurated at Thoppupalayam on the Kongu Engineering College campus here on Tuesday (December 23, 2025).

The upgraded facility at the sub post office was inaugurated by Akhil R. Nair, Director of Postal Services, Western Region, Coimbatore.

Addressing the media, Mr. Nair said this was the first N-Gen Post Office in the State, designed specifically for students and functioning as a student-centric facility. The post office has been designed with modern amenities and eye-catching wall art, and all its services have been fully digitised. It will function from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., keeping in mind the convenience of students. All services normally offered at regular post offices are available here as well, he added.

The premises also provide free internet access for students. In addition, facilities such as chess and carrom boards have been provided to encourage interaction and recreation among students. Notice boards have also been installed to enable students to display information and notes related to their creative works.

The initiative aims to familiarise Gen Z users with postal services and provide fast, digitally enabled and youth-friendly services to over 10,000 students, faculty members, staff and residents in and around the campus. It features smart and modern counter setups, exclusive facilities for students and faculty, quick services for Speed Post and parcels, banking and savings services, PLI/RPLI and Aadhaar services, digital payment options, and spacious waiting and customer service areas. The facility is expected to make postal services faster and more accessible to the public.

K. Gopalan, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Erode Division, and officials were also present.
