Students present glittering cultural events at Republic Day celebration in Tenkasi

District Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore unfurled the national flag and handed over welfare assistance to the beneficiaries during the 77^th Republic Day celebrations held at ICE Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School here on Monday.

After unfurling the tricolour in the presence of Superintendent of Police, G.S. Madhavan, Mr. Kamal Kishore took salute from the police, fire and rescue services personnel, home guards and the NCC cadets and honoured 66 policemen with Chief Minister’s Medal for meritorious service. As many as 319 government officials were also honoured on the occasion.

A total of 30 persons including 14 students for memorising ‘Thirukkural’ were honoured with cash awards worth ₹15.76 lakh and 10 beneficiaries received ₹66.10 lakh-worth assistance.

Over a thousand students from St. Arulanandar Higher Secondary School, Agarakattu, Puliyangudi Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Vel’s Vidhyalaya Secondary School, Sankarankovil Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Veikkaalipatti Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jeeva Motessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karivalamvanthanallur Government Higher Secondary School, Manjammal Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and Jawahar Children’s Mandram presented colourful cultural events on the occasion.

District Forest Officer R. Rajmohan, Sub-Collector, Tenkasi Vaishnavi Paul, District Revenue Officer S. Jayachandran, MP Rani Srikumar, Tenkasi MLA S. Palani Nadar and senior officials participated in the function.
