The Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) police have arrested Jaffar Siddiq, a suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Paramakudi, in connection with a case registered on a complaint by his wife, who accused him of having relationships with several women and physically assaulting her.

Siddiq was arrested after eight hours of questioning at the Vellore CB-CID office. He was produced before the Vellore Special Court for cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and remanded in judicial custody on Thursday at Vellore Central Prison.

His wife, Shobana, lodged a complaint on August 4 alleging that Siddiq was involved with several women and assaulted her when she questioned him about the relationships. She also approached the Director General of Police office seeking his arrest.

Based on the complaint, the CB-CID police, Vellore unit registered a case against Siddiq under various provisions. He was suspended from service on August 21, pending further proceedings.

Siddiq, a native of Krishnagiri district, entered the police service through the 2020 Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group-I examination. He had served as DSP in Thiruvidaimarudur in Thanjavur district and Arakkonam in Ranipet district, before being transferred to Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district on July 4, 2026.

While serving in Arakkonam in 2024, Siddiq married Shobana, who was working in a private software company in the town.
