Reiterating that solid waste management in the city has gone for a toss, D. Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA for Mangaluru City South, alleged here on Tuesday that the administration, under the Congress government, at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has totally collapsed.

Addressing presspersons, the two-time MLA reiterated that black spots in the city have increased with garbage being dumped on roadsides. Construction waste has been dumped on roadsides, with the MCC failing to prevent it. The MCC is not collecting garbage from the doorsteps in interior areas of the city, he alleged.

The MLA said that black spots dented the image of the city, once known for its cleanliness. They showed the city in poor light for tourists. On the other hand, waste segregation is not happening properly at the doorsteps, and the corporation has failed to create awareness on the same among people.

Mr. Kamath alleged that the corporation is showing partiality in removing petty shops. Its officials are acting on behalf of Congress leaders and removing only such shops as directed by the leaders. “Why is the civic body not removing all petty shops without discrimination?” he asked.

The MLA said that the MCC has failed to remove the flexes of Congress leaders. But it has removed the flexes of the Urwa Marigudi temple.

“The MCC officials have become puppets of Congress leaders,” he alleged stating that he wondered whether MCC office has turned out to be Congress office.

Mr. Kamath said that, notwithstanding raising the matter in the Legislative Assembly, of jammers installed inside Mangaluru district prison creating internet network problem to people residing near the prison, the problem continues.

The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister have been apprised of the matter, he said.

The MLA said that the Congress government during its last two-and-a-half-year tenure has not released any funds to construct storm water drains and build roads in the city.
