The Tamil Nadu Child Rights Watch (TNCRW) has registered a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding violations to the use of children for political purposes in the Tamil Nadu elections as it violated their 2023 guidelines. They have also urged the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) to take suo moto cognisance of such violations by political parties.
The complaint stated that there multiple widely circulated videos on social media of children being encouraged, influenced, and emotionally conditioned to pressure their parents and elders to vote for a particular political party and its symbol, “Whistle,” associated with C. Joseph Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.
