Officials of the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a raid at the premises of an unqualified medical practitioner in Karimnagar on Saturday (December 27). The raid was carried out at Laxmi First Aid Centre where K. Laxminarayana was conducting clinical practice without possessing required medical qualifications.
During the inspection, DCA officials found 39 varieties of medicines stocked at the clinic without a valid drug licence. Of these, 35 varieties were physician’s samples, including antibiotics, analgesics and anti-ulcer drugs. The total value of the seized stock was estimated at ₹15,011.
The officials also detected several antibiotics such as Cefixime, Ofloxacin, Cloxacillin, Amoxycillin and Azithromycin at the premises. The DCA cautioned that the indiscriminate sale and use of antibiotics by unqualified persons could have serious public health consequences, including the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance.
