Police departments across Hyderabad and Telangana marked the 80th Independence Day on Saturday with flag-hoisting ceremonies and parades, with senior officers highlighting technology-driven policing, public safety, narcotics enforcement and prison reforms.
Several police officers and personnel were also honoured by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Independence Day with various awards recognising exemplary and meritorious service. The honours were presented in recognition of their dedication, professional conduct and contribution to policing and public service.
At the DGP office in Lakdikapul, IG (Multi-Zone-II) Shahnawaz Qasim hoisted the national flag in the presence of senior officers and staff.

At the CAR Headquarters in Petlaburj, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar unfurled the national flag and received the Guard of Honour. He paid tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs and presented certificates of appreciation to 72 police personnel for meritorious service.

Commissioner Sajjanar highlighted the Hyderabad Police’s efforts against food adulteration, cybercrime, drugs and crimes against women. He said the H-FAST unit had been formed to crack down on food adulteration, while Operation Octopus and the C-Mitra virtual police officer initiative were being used to tackle cybercrime. More than 1,700 Zero FIRs have been registered through C-Mitra, he said.
He also highlighted the Spandana instant protection system for women, which receives around 30 complaints a day, and said 300 women police personnel would soon receive specialised driving training. The H-NEW narcotics enforcement wing had also been strengthened to deal with drug offenders, he said.
At the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, Commissioner M. Ramesh hoisted the national flag and received the Guard of Honour. He said a safe environment for citizens and industries was essential for Hyderabad and Telangana to attract investments and achieve economic growth.

Mr. Ramesh said Hyderabad and Telangana were gaining global recognition in science, technology and pharmaceuticals and stressed the role of the police in maintaining law and order. He presented Uttama Seva medals to four personnel and Seva medals to another 15 personnel for their service.
The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate also marked Independence Day under Commissioner B. Sumathi, with police personnel participating in the celebrations and reiterating their commitment to public safety and citizen-centric policing.
At the newly formed Future City Commissionerate headquarters in Ibrahimpatnam, Commissioner Tarun Joshi hoisted the national flag and outlined the vision of ‘SMART, SAFE, SECURE’ policing. Commissioner Joshi said Future City offered an opportunity to build a policing system from the ground up using technology and data while retaining a strong focus on human values. He said the police force had to be professional, impartial, accessible and humane, with particular attention to women, children and vulnerable sections.

At the State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA) in Chanchalguda, the celebrations focused on prison reforms and rehabilitation. Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services Soumya Mishra said modern prisons should go beyond custody and security and focus on education, skill development, correction and social reintegration.

A 12-platoon parade involving 316 trainees and prison personnel was held at SICA. DG Mishra highlighted the achievement of 78 inmates who cleared the Class X examination through the National Institute of Open Schooling and said the department was expanding educational and vocational opportunities for inmates.
The department also presented 25 certificates of appreciation to prison officials, while Deputy Jailor Chakrala Raju was felicitated for receiving the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service for 2025.
The Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department also observed Independence Day at its headquarters in Gachibowli and the State Training Academy at Vattinagulapally. Director of Fire Services G.V. Narayana Rao hoisted the national flag and called upon personnel to continue serving the people with dedication, discipline and professionalism.
