Medical students of Government Medical College (GMC), Jagtial of Telangana, called off their protest on Friday (October 9, 2026) after signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Telangana Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, which laid down deadlines for completing and handing over pending infrastructure at the college.

The agreement addresses the students’ demands for completion of hostel facilities, a permanent college building, laboratories, sports amenities and other essential campus infrastructure. The boys’ and girls’ hostel facilities was agreed to be completed and handed over to the college administration on or before November 25. The facilities are intended to accommodate students, interns and resident doctors, with dedicated reading rooms.

The permanent college building, excluding the Administrative Block, would be completed and handed over by December 9. The building would include lecture halls with centralised air-conditioning and fully equipped departmental laboratories. The students had also sought at least four gallery-type lecture theatres and a Central Library with adequate reading rooms.

The agreement further stipulates that the sports ground must be fully developed and handed over by the first week of January 2027.

The remaining campus infrastructure, including the Administrative Block, internal roads, a functional drainage system and landscaping, must be completed by the second week of February 2027. The agreement also addresses the need to resolve construction-related hazards on campus to ensure compliance with National Medical Commission standards.

The students said they were withdrawing the protest in view of the written commitments and the stipulated deadlines for completing the pending works. They would resume academic and clinical duties with immediate effect.
