VCK president and Lok Sabha MP Thol. Thirumavalavan has urged President Droupadi Murmu to intervene and seek the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over concerns raised about the Election Commission’s functioning during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a letter to the President on Wednesday, Mr. Thirumavalavan cited The Indian Express’s investigation, which reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections on 14 occasions over the past 10 months to decisions of the poll panel.
Mr. Thirumavalavan said the reported objections, if borne out by official records, raised questions over the legality of the manner in which the Commission had conducted its business. He urged the President to stop all SIR-related activities and seek Mr. Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation to protect the integrity of the electoral process and citizens’ democratic rights.
