The Anamalai police on Sunday arrested three persons on charge of creating a ruckus at the Forest Department’s reception centre at Top Slip in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve and assaulting the driver of its safari vehicle.
The arrested have been identified as C. Jayaraj (53) of Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, V. Demin (33) and J. William (33) of Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district.
According to the Forest Department, some of the tourists who arrived at Top Slip on Sunday were found in possession of alcoholic beverages, which were seized by the Ulandy forest range staff. Following the incident, the accused engaged in an argument and verbally abused Forest Department staff during a forest safari.
They further used abusive language at the reception area at Top Slip, without showing any regard for a woman staffer on duty. They also assaulted the driver of the safari vehicle and prevented the Department staff from performing their duties.
A complaint was lodged at the Anamalai police station as the conduct of the three tourists caused inconvenience and mental distress to other tourists present at Top Slip reception centre. The police arrested the three men and they were remanded in judicial custody.
The Department stated that possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages inside the tiger reserve is prohibited.
