The Sri Sathya Sai district police arrested three persons for the murder of a 44-year-old Karnataka native, on Sunday. According to the police, the three had allegedly killed the deceased following a long-standing land dispute and personal grudge stemming from an earlier humiliation.
Speaking to the media here, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said the accused were nabbed following an investigation, and special teams were formed to solve the case registered at Amadagur police station.
The body of the victim, identified as C. Muthappa, a resident of Devaravanka village in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka, was found on September 4 in a tomato field at Amadagur mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district, close to the Karnataka border. His wife allegedly complained that he was found lying in a pool of blood with fatal head and neck injuries.
The accused, identified as Suresha (54), R. Somasekhara (36), and A. Ananda (42), all residents of Billur village of Bagepalle taluka in Chikaballapur district, were arrested near Mohammadabad in OD Cheruvu mandal early on Sunday. Police said they would be produced before a court.
According to the SP, Suresha had land-related disputes with the victim, while Somasekhara had a grudge after being allegedly humiliated by the victim in the past. The deceased had reportedly slapped Somasekhara with a chappal in public, after the latter had reportedly misbehaved with his daughter.
Acting on these motives, the accused allegedly planned the murder for nearly six months and attacked Muthappa with iron rods on the night of September 3 when he was returning home after attending an errand at a village in Amadagur mandal on the A.P. border, the SP informed.
