Tiruchi Corporation to set up nurseries in four zones for greening drive

In an attempt to raise the green cover, the Tiruchi Corporation has taken up a drive to plant about three lakh tree saplings across the city.

Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani, who inspected the nursery at Ambedkar Nagar in Zone 1 of the city on Saturday, said one lakh tree saplings were being raised under shade nets there. Similar nurseries would be established in the other four zones of the city and various tree saplings, including various native and flower-bearing trees would be raised, she said.

Already tree saplings had been planted along various roads, Corporation parks and river courses. Besides, urban forests have been established. So far, 45% of the tree saplings have been planted, Ms. Ponmani said in a press release.
