Tirunelveli district, which had 14,18,325 voters before the Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll, now has 12,03,368 voters after deleting 2,14,957 (15.16%) absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters when the draft electoral roll was published on Friday.
The five Assembly constituencies of Tirunelveli district viz. Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram had 14,18,325 voters including 6,91,026 men, 7,27,130 women and 169 other voters before the SIR was taken-up. During the SIR, the absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters were not included in the electoral roll.
During SIR, 2,14,957 electors – 42,119 voters in Tirunelveli, 42,501 voters in Ambasamudram, 36,057 in Palayamkottai, 54,260 in Nanguneri and 40,020 in Radhapuram – were found to be absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters and hence they have been deleted from the draft electoral roll released on Friday by District Collector R. Sukumar.
“Claims and objections for including or deleting the voters can be submitted till January 18, 2026 with Form 6 and self declaration. These objections and claims will be uploaded in the Chief Electoral Officer’s website so that everyone can view it for raising objections, if any,” Dr. Sukumar said.
If any of these voters submit the claims or objections seeking inclusion of their names in the electoral roll, it will be affirmed through field verification and then included in the electoral roll with the concurrence of the political parties.
“As of now, the recognised political parties have been provided with the details of the absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters to get their concurrence before the release of draft electoral roll,” Dr. Sukumar said.
The recognised political parties have been given the hard and soft copies of the draft electoral roll and the details about deleted voters during SIR. While the voters can check the draft electoral roll with their Electors’ Photo Identity Card number, the political parties can also do so to cross-check the deletion of voters.
Since the Election Commission of India has stipulated that no polling booth should have more than 1,200 voters, the additional voters have been moved to the nearest booth with lesser number of voters or new booths have been created in the nearest place. Hence, 190 booths have been created in the five Assembly constituencies of Tirunelveli district while two booths with lesser number of voters have been annexed. After this exercise, Tirunelveli district, which then had 1,490 booths, now has 1,678 polling booths, Dr. Sukumar said.
Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana, District Revenue Officer M. Durai, Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi Ayush Gupta and others were present.
In Tenkasi district, 1,51,902 absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters of Sankarankovil (Reserved), Vasudevanallur (Reserved), Kadayanallur, Tenkasi and Alangulam Assembly segments have been deleted during SIR to leave 12,25,797 voters including 6,01,787 men, 6,23,852 women and 158 other voters in the draft electoral roll.
The district had 13,75,091 voters (excluding the officials on election duty) before SIR. After delimitation of the polling booths, number of booths in the district has moved up to 1,680.

After SIR, Thoothukudi district has 13,28,158 voters including 6,49,224 men, 6,78,752 women and 182 other voters as 1,62,527 absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters have been removed from the electoral roll of six Assembly constituencies – Kovilpatti, Vilaathikulam, Ottapidaaram (Reserved), Thoothukudi, Srivaikundam and Tiruchendur segments.
Before SIR, the district had 14,90,685 voters including 7,27,512 men, 7,62,939 women and 234 other voters.
Kanniyakumari district, which had 15,92,872 voters including 7,92,064 men, 8,00,643 women and 165 other voters in Kanniyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachal, Padmanabhapuram, Vilavancode and Killiyoor Assembly constituencies, now has 14,39,499 voters including 7,19,973 men, 7,19,386 women and 140 other voters as 1,53,373 absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters have been deleted during SIR.
After the rationalisation of polling booths, Kanniyakumari district, which had 1,702 booths, now houses 1,914 polling booths – an increase of 212 booths, District Collector R. Alagumeena said after releasing the draft electoral roll.
In all, 6,82,759 absent, shifted, death, duplicate and double entry voters have been deleted in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts during SIR.
