Water scarcity
The residents of 15th ward in Meenakshipuram under Eruvadi town panchayat, are facing severe drinking water scarcity due to complete drying up of water resources. The town panchayat authorities should look into the situation and take immediate steps on a war footing to address the problem.

Rising homicides
It is a matter of great concern that people are killing each other over petty issues. Tirunelveli has best arts, medical engineering, law and veterinary colleges, besides a university, ITIs and polytechnics. Yet homicides continue to increase. People are scared, as arguments between two persons can unexpectedly turn violent, with one of them producing a concealed weapon and attacking the other in a fit of fury. It is requested that in sensitive areas peace committees be organised in addition to police security. Frequent interaction between warring people is the need of the hour and it could instil confidence among the people and provide them with a sense of security.

Garbage menace
Kanniyakumari railway station used by lakhs of tourists from across the country. While the government is taking several measures for its expansion by introducing more trains, adding platforms and improving passenger amenities, the area in front of the railway station presents a different picture. The open rainwater drain at the entrance is filled with garbage. During the seasonal rains, the waste could be carried into the sea along with the rainwater. The municipal authorities should take immediate steps to prevent people from dumping garbage into the drain and the drain should be covered with a concrete slab to prevent such dumbing.

Public inconvenience
Sir C.P. Ramasamy Iyer Memorial Park in Veppamoodu is a spacious park which caters to the needs of the public in various ways in Nagercoil. However, the frequent use of the area in front of the park for various demonstrations is defeating the very purpose of the park. The elderly people who visit the park to enjoy the greenery and the peaceful environment are often forced to return disappointed when the entry is denied due to the demonstration. The children and students visiting the digital planetarium and play area with their parents and teachers also have to leave the park with a deep sense of disappointment.
Tourists and local people who desire to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial and freedom fighter A. Ponnappa Nadar are also deprived of the opportunity when the entrance is blocked. The park also provides a parking space for the public, but demonstrations make it difficult for vehicle owners to park their vehicles as well as take them out. Such public hindrance also causes traffic congestion in and around Veppamoodu junction, Court Road and PWD Road. Noise pollution is another problem to be tackled with. Will the authorities granting permission to stage such demonstrations also keep in mind the disturbances caused to the public?
