The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has commenced special buses for government school students located in remote pockets or hillocks from Friday (October 9).
A press release said that TNSTC Managing Director V. Saravanan flagged off the services in the presence of the senior officials.
The buses, which would be operated from multiple locations in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Dindigul (which falls in Madurai jurisdiction), would benefit 2,295 students. The buses in Madurai would be operated covering Thirumangalam, MGR bus integrated bus stand,Vadapalanchi, Y Othakadai and Mooduvarpatti and among other locations. In the evenings, the buses would pick up the students from the respective schools to the above destinations.
The TNSTC would ply eight special buses in Madurai, five in Dindigul and four from Virudhunagar.
The T.N. government had announced to ply buses exclusively for children, who were located in remote pockets or their schools were not easily reachable and placed in hillocks. In many districts, children had to trek to the schools as there were no private transports.
Hence, the government had decided to operate 140 buses across T.N., which would benefit 19,000 children to go to their schools comfortably, the officials said.
