A training programme on election expenditure monitoring and enforcement of election code of conduct for the various committees was inaugurated by the District Election Officer and Collector, Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, on Tuesday.
According to official sources, ahead of the State Assembly elections, committees have been constituted for the nine Assembly constituencies. As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, committees for election expenditure monitoring, flying squad for enforcement of election code of conduct, static surveillance and video monitoring teams have been appointed for each Assembly segment.
The duties to be performed for the forthcoming Assembly elections, measures that need to be taken up to check illegal transportation of cash and gift items in the run-up to the election by carrying out vehicle checks at different locations, videographing of the checks, documentation procedures, and the ways to deal with violation of Model Code of Conduct during election were explained in detail to the members of the flying squads and static surveillance teams.
The Collector directed the video surveillance teams to submit expenditure-related reports for their respective constituencies. The teams must also record major political party events, processions and meeting related to the elections.
The expenditure committee has been instructed to incorporate expense reports from all teams into candidates’ expenditure accounts and maintain shadow registers for each candidate.
