Tripura jailbreak: Most wanted absconder arrested after three months

Tripura Police have arrested the fourth fugitive three months after the jailbreak in the State in October last. Sunil Debbarma was captured from his home at Melaghar in Sepahijala district late on Tuesday night.

Sunil Debbarma was the most wanted among the escapees as he had been convicted of murder and other serious crimes and was serving a life sentence.

Six inmates, including five undertrials and one convict, had escaped from the Dharmanagar sub-jail in north Tripura district on October 1. One of them, Narayan Chandra Dutta, is a Bangladeshi national.

They fled the jail after assaulting the gate sentry and some jail wardens.

Three of the escapees, including the Bangladeshi national, were arrested within a few days of the incident. After the arrest of Sunil Debbarma, two more jail inmates remain absconding.

Police said Sunil Debbarma was arrested in a raid based on specific tip-offs. He was produced before a court on Wednesday and remanded for interrogation.
