The Amba Maheshwari Trust has expanded its initiatives aimed at raising awareness regarding waste management and addressing traffic issues to include the Pandeshwar, Cantonment, Port and Attavar wards, effective January 1, Thursday. This launch is part of the expansion of the Awake Kudla concept, a cluster-2 awareness programme.
To mark the event, Trust members joined residents in clearing plastic bags, bottles and other waste near the railway track by the Chinmaya Mission office in Hoige Bazar. Swami Yugeshananda of Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangaluru, former councillors of Port and Attavar wards and several religious leaders joined in the initiative.
Trust members formed teams to visit houses and learn about household waste disposal and traffic issues. They distributed pamphlets about the ‘Awake Kudla’ initiative and cards with contact numbers for waste disposal assistance.
Before launching the programme, condolences were expressed for Nitte (Deemed to be University) Chancellor N. Vinaya Hegde, who passed away at his home in Mangaluru on Thursday morning.
Three years ago, the Trust launched the Awake Kudla initiative to tackle waste disposal and traffic issues in Mangaladevi, Hoige Bazar, and Bolar wards. Starting February 1, the Trust will collect waste from 1,000 houses in Mulihitlu, sending wet and inert waste to Pachchanady, while segregating dry and e-waste for disposal at a designated MCC space in Mulihitlu.
As part of Awake Kudla 2, the Trust is expanding its work to include Pandeshwar, Port, Cantonment and Attavar wards.
