The Bajpe police have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and have recovered 1.2 kg of cannabis worth ₹65,000 from them.

The police identified the accused as Rakshit, 23, and Akshay B., 23, both from Kallige village, near Benjanpadavu in Bantwal taluk.

In a press release, the police said that during the vehicle-checking drive on Saturday, they stopped the scooter on which the two accused were riding. Instead of stopping, the accused went ahead, and the police chased and caught the accused.

The police checked the scooter and seized 1.214 kg of cannabis that the accused possessed. The accused told the police that they had procured the cannabis from a person in Maripalla and that they were on their way to sell it to their clients.

The police arrested Rakshit and Akshay for offences under Sections 8(C) and 20(B)(II) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Apart from the cannabis, the police also seized a digital weighing machine, two mobile phones, and two two-wheelers from the accused. They were produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded the accused in judicial custody for 14 days. The police said they were searching for the persons who had supplied the cannabis to the accused.
