Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey chaired a comprehensive review meeting on NLC India Ltd (NLCIL’s) operational performance and future growth plans.
Mr. Dubey who was on a two-day visit to NLCIL on December 27 and 28, lauded the company’s significant contributions to the nation’s energy security and economic development. He appreciated the company’s initiatives such as supply of drinking water to Chennai, support to State Governments during natural calamities like floods, water conservation, Swachhata campaign, extraction of critical minerals from overburden and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
According to a press note, Mr. Dubey also laid the foundation stone for the “Neyveli Neer” plant. The project conceptualized by the Ministry of Coal, mandates the establishment of water treatment plans by coal and lignite PSUs under its administrative control.
The project aims to utilise mine water to produce treated drinking water, branded as Neyveli Neer, for commercial use while generating opportunities for local communities, particularly women-led Self-help groups. The initiative focuses on sustainable reuse of mine water and supply of purified drinking water to nearby communities at a nominal cost.
The plant has a capacity of 10,000 litres per hour, with a targeted daily output of 1 lakh litres.
At the Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (NNTPS), the Minister virtually inaugurated an electric vehicle charging station at NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL), Thoothukudi. The Minister also visited NLCIL’s heritage museum and Ananda Illam, a home for the elderly operated by NLCIL under its CSR programme.
NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli and functional Directors were present.
