The State Highways Department has planned to widen the Vennaru left bank road for a stretch of about 1.4 km from the Koraiyaru Thalaippu in Tiruvarur district.
The approach road is planned to be developed as a two-way road with retaining walls at a cost of ₹20 crore. A proposal had been drawn up as the State Tourism Department was planning to develop the area as a picnic spot, according to official sources.
Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa, along with District Collector V. Mohanachandran, and V. Veerappan, Divisional Engineer, Highways, inspected the road and discussed the development plans.
