Vettri Payanam scheme extended in Thanjavur district

The number of “no-fare travel” bus services offered to women commuters in Thanjavur district has increased by around 45% with the launch of extended “Vettri Payanam” scheme.

Inquiries reveal that the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam Division, operates 199 vehicles as town bus services in urban locations and connecting important rural locations with nearby urban centres within 30-km radius from the urban centres.

Following the launch of extended “Vettri Payanam” scheme, women can now avail the “no-fare travel” facility in 89 ordinary services on mofussil routes. With this, the total number of “no-fare travel” services available to women in Thanjavur has increased to 288 buses on different routes, sources pointed out.
