Vigilance and Enforcement Department’s Hyderabad City-I unit personnel during a surprise route check in the city

The Vigilance and Enforcement Department’s Hyderabad City-I unit conducted a surprise route check in the city, levying taxes and penalties amounting to over ₹21.5 lakh during the operation.
The checks were carried out on the intervening night of January 22 and 23 between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. at Nagole X Road, Changicherla X Road and the surrounding areas. The operation was conducted by Vigilance and Enforcement officials along with personnel from the Motor Vehicles Department and the Royalty Inspector from the Mines Department.
During the drive, 11 cases were booked under the Motor Vehicles Act for violations including overloading, licence and permit irregularities. Vehicles involved in the violations were seized and penalties of approximately ₹1.37 lakh were imposed on drivers. Two cases were registered under the Mining Act for violations related to the transportation of sand, with penalties of around ₹22,918 being levied.
In addition, three cases were booked under the GST Act, during which tax evasion amounting to about ₹19.91 lakh was detected.
The Vigilance and Enforcement Department stated that the checks were part of ongoing efforts to prevent leakage of public revenue and misuse of government funds and natural resources. The public has been urged to report any irregularities or misuse of government resources to the department through its toll-free number 14432.
