Vijayawada receives first prolonged spell of rain this year

Vijayawada received light rain throughout the day on Wednesday, September 23, with showers beginning around 9 a.m. and continuing until the evening.

According to district authorities, between 8.30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Vijayawada East recorded 27.4 mm of rainfall, while Vijayawada West and Central recorded 24.6 mm each and Vijayawada North 23.4 mm.

Several other parts of NTR district also received light to moderate rainfall during the period. Tiruvuru recorded the highest rainfall at 97.2 mm, followed by Reddigudem at 59.4 mm, Vissannapeta at 55.8 mm, G. Konduru at 35.2 mm, Gampalagudem at 27.4 mm, A. Konduru at 26.6 mm, Vijayawada Rural at 24.8 mm, Ibrahimpatnam at 23.4 mm and Mylavaram at 22.4 mm. Other areas recorded less than 20 mm. The district received a total of 570.2 mm of rainfall during the period.

In view of the rainfall, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha conducted a surprise inspection of the control room set up at the District Collectorate and reviewed the performance of the staff on duty. He instructed officials to remain alert and promptly bring complaints received from the public to the notice of the officials concerned. People can dial 9154970454 for assistance.

Meanwhile, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. urged people living in dilapidated buildings to remain alert and move to safer places immediately. He inspected old and dilapidated buildings and structures in several areas of the city and directed officials to accord the highest priority to public safety.

The district is under a yellow alert for Thursday, with isolated moderate to heavy rainfall likely.
