Idols of Lord Vinayaka were taken out in a procession as part of Vinayakar Chathurthi celebrations in Dindigul district, on Wednesday.

In Dindigul, the idol of Lord Vinayaka was taken on a procession from Kudaiparaipatti by devotees for immersion at Kottaikulam. The procession passed off peacefully. A large number of devotees took part in the procession.

A large number of police personnel were deployed at key junctions and places along the route of the procession for security purposes and to ensure there were no untoward incidents. An adequate number of police personnel were posted in front of the Big Mosque at Begampur in Dindigul. The idol of Lord Vinayaka was immersed in the tank near Kottaikulam.

Earlier, Dindigul district administration issued guidelines on the permissible materials for making Lord Vinayaka idols for the immersion ceremony in connection with the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations. The authorities had instructed that the Lord Vinayaka idols should be immersed only at places notified for the purpose.
