Members of the Visakhapatnam Apartment Resident Welfare Association (VARWA) and Greater Visakha Resident Colony Association’s Federation (NIVAS) staged a protest against the drinking water supply shortage in the city, near the Gandhi Statue at the GVMC office on Tuesday (August 18, 2026).

During the protest, the members alleged that for the past three months, not just the drinking water, even the ground water levels have dropped, leading to a crisis. They noted that Arilova, Madhurawada, Jagadamba, Akkayyapalem, ASR nagar, Chittibabu Colony, Pendurthi, Sujatha Nagar, Gajuwaka, Kurmannapalem, and several other areas have been facing the issue. They stated that earlier, the GVMC used to release water for an hour, but now the time has dropped to around 20 minutes in some areas. They also alleged that bore repairs were not taken up by the authorities concerned. They urged the GVMC to take immediate measures to tackle the crisis.

N. Prakash Rao, B.B. Ganesh from VARWA, B. Gurappa, P. Narayana Murthy from NIVAS and others participated.
