Koney Sridhar of Visakhapatnam has been appointed a member of the Hindi Advisory Committee (Hindi Salahkar Samiti) under the Union Ministry of Finance. The committee has 15 members, including six Members of Parliament, while the remaining nine are experts drawn from various fields across the country.
Notably, two members from Andhra Pradesh have been nominated to the committee, and both hail from Visakhapatnam. Former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad and teacher and Official Language Promoter Koney Sridhar figure among the nominees.
Mr. Sridhar founded the organisation Hindi Manch in Visakhapatnam and has been actively promoting Hindi for the past 20 years across the three erstwhile districts of North Andhra. He is currently serving as the State Publicity Secretary of the Hindi Prachar Sabha, Andhra Pradesh.
He has received a gold medal for Hindi teaching and a silver medal for Hindi promotion, in addition to being honoured with the State-level Best Pracharak Award on six occasions. In 2016, he was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award Pratishtit Pracharak by the Hindi Prachar Sabha, Hyderabad. He has also received accolades from Tara Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, for his contribution to the promotion of the official language.
