Volunteers raise slogans for Korattur lake restoration

Members of the Korattur Aeri Pathukappu Makkal Iyakkam (KAPMI), a citizens’ movement, raised slogans calling for awareness on Korattur lake restoration in the city on Thursday in view of World Lake Protection Day.

KAPMI’s secretary S. Sekaran said residents and representatives from various organisations like Exnora International and Puzhal Eri Pathukappu Makkal Iyakkam took part in the event. “We raised slogans seeking Korattur lake to be declared as birds’ sanctuary and prevent sewage release into the water body. The lake plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity, groundwater recharge, and flood mitigation,” he said.
