Roshni Aparanji Korati, Deputy Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority, and Arun Prasad T., Chief Vigilance Officer, on December 31 formally inaugurated an Integrated Self Propelled Heavy Duty Single Engine Mechanical Section Road Sweeping Machine at the VPA Central Fire Station.
The sweeping machine will be used for cleaning spillage, dust and debris on port roads. It has been supplied as part of a contract valued at ₹4.69 crore, which includes an annual maintenance contract for 36 months. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the high-capacity machine is capable of sweeping in all directions and has a sweeping capacity of 20,000 cubic metres per hour.
The new machine adds to the three road sweeping machines already deployed by the Port Authority to strengthen dust mitigation measures within the port area and its surroundings, an official release said.
On the same occasion, a multi-purpose fire tender procured at a cost of ₹3.85 crore was also inaugurated. The fire tender is equipped with a 6,000-litre water tank, 200 litres of foam compound, 100 kg of dry chemical powder and 45 kg of CO₂, apart from other essential emergency response equipment.
