A walkathon was organised by the Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department in Bhavanisagar recently to create awareness of the Right to Information (RTI) Act as part of a week-long campaign held from October 5 to 12, following instructions from Erode Collector S. Kandasamy.
The walkathon was led by M. Kathiresan, Assistant Director of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare, along with staff members of the department. Fisheries Department employees and college students participated in the event. The campaign was aimed at educating the public about the provisions of the RTI Act and encouraging citizens to exercise their right to access information held by public authorities. The initiative also sought to highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in government administration. The participation of college students was intended to familiarise young people with the legislation and its role in promoting informed citizenship and public participation in governance.
