A warehouse storing plastic products at Veerakeralam in Coimbatore was damaged in a fire on Friday (September 18).
Noxious smoke billowed from the warehouse and spread to the surrounding areas, causing breathing difficulty to residents.
The Fire and Rescue Services said that a warehouse at Thotta Salai in Veerakeralam was destroyed in the fire. The Coimbatore north fire station received an alert about the fire at 12.12 p.m.
Two fire tenders from north station, one each from Coimbatore south, Thondamuthur, Ganapathy and Kuniyamuthur were sent to the spot. Fire brigades brought the flames under control in about three hours. Water was sprayed further to cool the area.
An officer from the Fire and Rescue Services said several houses and a few other warehouses are located in the area where the fire was reported. The officer added that the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained. Further investigations by the police and the Fire and Rescue Services were on.
