Pumping of water from the Gayatri pumphouse at Laxmipur village in Ramadugu mandal of Karimnagar district began on Wednesday to divert Godavari waters from the Sripada Sagar Yellampalli project to the Mid-Manair Dam.

According to sources, the Yellampalli project is receiving inflows of around 56,000 cusecs from upstream areas. Water is being lifted from the Yellampalli project by operating motors at the Nandi Medaram pumphouse in Dharmaram mandal of Peddapalli district.

Three giant motors at the Gayatri pumphouse were operated on Wednesday, pumping nearly 10,500 cusecs of water to the Mid-Manair Dam through the Sriramsagar Flood Flow Canal. The pumping is expected to benefit farmers in several mandals of the erstwhile Karimnagar district, who have been awaiting irrigation water during the crucial kharif amid erratic rainfall.
