“The AHINDA convention planned in Mysuru on January 25 will go on as per schedule. We do not need anyone’s certificate to hold such an event,” Satish Jarkiholi, Minister and Congress leader said on Thursday.
Speaking to repoerters at his Bengaluru home,. Mr. Jarkiholi said AHINDA is a social movement and not a political show of strength. However, it can bring political benefits to the party. The successful organisation of the AHINDA convention in Davanagere was one of the reasons for the party coming to power last time,” he said.
“Organising conventions of deprived and backward communities certainly strengthens the party. Such innovative political experiments should keep happening now and then. The AHINDA movement is our strength. However, there is no rule that we should be organising AHINDA conventions or Dalit conventions. Anyone can do it. We welcome it,” he said.
The AHINDA convention being organised in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home town of Mysuru is being seen as a show of strength by his loyalists such as Satish Jarkiholi to send a message to the party high command to let him complete the five-year term.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, the apparent contender for the post, has played down the news, by saying he would wish the organisers the best of luck.
