The Communist Party of India (CPI) will not remain a spectator if the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) are “politically hunted,” party Keralam State secretary Binoy Viswam has said.

He was responding to questions from the media over reports saying that the Advocate General of the State has advised the United Democratic Front-led government to accept the letter from the Enforcement Directorate to the State Police Chief to register a first information report (FIR) against Opposition leader and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and her husband CPI(M) State secretariat member P.A. Mohamed Riyas in the CMRL-Exalogic pay-off case.

Asked about the CPI’s stand on the issue, Mr. Viswam initially said that the party would study and respond. Later, he said that the CPI has a clear stand on it, which need not be clarified every day.
