A late-night drunken brawl claimed the life of a 20-year-old scrap picker in Royal Colony, Balapur, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Murshid Alam, a resident of Royal Colony. Police said Murshid and the accused, 18-year-old Abdullah, who also works as a scrap picker and lives in the same locality, were drunk when an argument erupted over a trivial issue.
According to Balapur Inspector M. Sudhakar, the quarrel quickly escalated, prompting Abdullah to go to his house and return with a knife. He allegedly attacked Murshid, inflicting fatal injuries and killing him on the spot, before fleeing the scene.
The incident was reported at around 1.45 a.m., following which the Balapur police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for postmortem examination.
A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the accused.
