Dowleswaram Irrigation Circle Superintendent Engineer E. K. Narasimha Murthy has said that 11,500 cusecs of water was being released into the Godavari delta in the districts of East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema for the Kharif operations-2025-26.

Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday, Mr. Narasimha Murthy said: “The Godavari water is being released into the Eastern, Central, and Western Godavari delta from the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram. The timely access to irrigation water will help speed up Kharif operations in the Godavari delta”.

In an official release, East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi said that paddy farmers have intensified direct sowing and nursery operations.

Approximately 74,000 hectares of land is under paddy cultivation in the East Godavari district.

The water being stored at the Polavaram irrigation project is being released to facilitate timely Kharif operations in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh. Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage is located nearly 40 kilometres downstream of the Polavaram irrigation project.
