A 28-year-old lorry driver was killed after reportedly being run over by a truck carrying gravel for paving a road near Vanagaram on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) night.
The city police said N. Sethupathi, a native of Sivagangai, worked as a driver for a company that operates caravan vehicles for film shoots, located in Puliyambedu near Vanagaram. On Tuesday night, Sethupathi completed his shift and slept near the company’s compound gate, spreading a mat on the ground.
As he was sleeping, the driver of a truck used for paving the Puliyambedu Road by the Thiruverkadu Municipality tried to reverse the vehicle. As it was dark, in the absence of streetlights, the truck driver ran over Sethupathi, who was sleeping on the pavement. He was killed on the spot. The driver of the truck fled from the spot.
The Vanagaram police sent the body to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. The police are on the lookout for the truck driver who allegedly caused the accident.
