The man who went missing in the Pooyamkutty River, a tributary of the Periyar, at Manikandanchal near Kothamangalam in the eastern suburbs of Ernakulam district, remained untraceable despite a massive search for the second consecutive day on Thursday (June 26, 2025).

Five teams — one from the Indian Navy, two from the National Disaster Response Force, and two scuba teams from the Fire and Rescue Services — resumed the search around 7.30 a.m. The missing man was identified as Radhakrishnan, alias Biju, 35, a resident of Manikandanchal. He was swept away while attempting to cross the Manikandanchal causeway, which had been submerged following heavy overnight rain.

The stretch between Manikandanchal and the Bhoothathankettu barrage was searched. A team comprising Antony John, MLA, Kuttampuzha grama panchayat president Kanthi Vellakkayan, and Kothamangalam tahsildar coordinated the search operations by camping at the site.
