Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday (June 29, 2025) handed over appointment letters to 21,391 newly appointed police constables during a programme organised at Babu Sabhagar in Patna.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kumar said that since the new government was formed on November 24, 2005, the rule of law in the State exists and the State government is continuously engaged in development work.
Attacking the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)âs rule, Bihar CM pointed out that everyone knows what was the situation in the previous government.
âPeople did not come out of the house after evening and the law-and-order situation was bad. At the time of formation of the new government in the State, the number of forces working in Bihar Police was very less. At that time the number of sanctioned forces in the police was about 51,000, against this, only 42,481 police personnel were working,âMr. Kumar said.
He further said, âWe have been saying from the beginning that the number of police forces in the State should be increased and we have been working since 2006. In 2013, we implemented 35% reservation for women in the police force. In 2022, the number of police force increased to 1.10 lakh and in 2023, the police force increased 2.29 lakh.â
Expressing happiness over the continuous effort on policing, he asserted that police recruitment is being done rapidly in Bihar to fill all vacant posts.
âI am happy that the work of direct recruitment of 21,391 constables has been completed, who are given appointment letters today. After todayâs recruitment, the number of women in Bihar Police has now increased to about 36,000, which is more than any State in the country. This is a matter of pride for all of us. The women police personnel who are already working are discharging their responsibilities effectively,â Mr. Kumar said.
Accompanied by both Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, the CM informed that State government is now working on the recruitment of 42,609 constables. The written examination for recruitment on 19838 posts will be held next month.
During his address he also instructed the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar that the police force should not have any shortage of resources. Mr. Kumar also asked the new policemen not to spare anyone who does wrong things and deal strictly with those who commit crime.
DGP administered the oath of police duty and discipline to the newly appointed policemen and Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit administered the oath of prohibition. A short film based on the working methods and achievements of Bihar Police was also screened.
