Elderly mother, son killed in fire mishap in Davanagere, four suffer burn injuries

In a tragic incident, an aged mother and her son succumbed to burn injuries in a fire mishap, reportedly caused due to short circuit in Davangere on Tuesday (July 1, 2025). Four others have suffered burn injuries.

The fire mishap occured at the residence of BJP leader H.M. Rudramuni Swamy at Kaipet in Davangere during the wee hours on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Vimala (75) and her son Kumar (35).

Six persons were in the house when the fire broke out at 4 a.m. While four managed to come out of the house, the mother and son were trapped as thick smoke engulfed their room, the Basava Nagar Station Police said.

Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the mother-son duo and rushed them to the hospital. However, they did not survive and succumbed to severe burn injuries, the police said.
