The Kochi City police have launched an investigation into the incident in which a seemingly elderly man died after reportedly jumping in front of Venad Express from the Thripunithura railway overbridge on Monday around 5.40 p.m.

According to the police, the deceased was probably aged between 60 and 70. The alleged incident occurred shortly after the train departed the Thripunithura station. The man reportedly jumped into the path of the moving train from the overbridge located around 100 metres ahead of the station.

He succumbed to injuries that proved fatal, though the train halted immediately following the incident. The train got stranded at the station for nearly an hour and resumed service only after the police removed the body and completed preliminary procedures.

The Hill Palace police have registered a case of unnatural death and are trying to identify the deceased. The body remains at the mortuary of the government hospital at Thripunithura.
